I know it’s March but what New Year’s resolutions do you tend to break most? Or are you crushing it so far this year! We hope it’s the latter.
For us, our resolutions have usually involved some commitment in health and fitness. Like most everyone we do try, in the month of January anyways, but once February comes around we lose all that momentum we had.
This year it’s different…
One, because we didn’t make any resolutions and two, because when you commit to something you love it doesn’t feel like a burden.
So this year we made a commitment to camp at least once a month for 12 months. Now that is a commitment we can get behind.
Our first stop was actually back in January. We camped at Doheny State Beach. We’ve camped their before but only for one night and we don’t even think we brought s’mores back then. That was before we opened up our s’mores business, Mallow Mallow obviously.
Doheny SB is the type of place where you can literally put your stakes in the sand. Unless you book those sites not on the beach. Because we booked during the week we were the youngest family there. The average age was probably right around 65. We weren’t complaining, it meant the place was quiet by 7pm. Hey, it was dark by 6pm so who’s judging. It also meant that we were one of only three tent campsites. Everyone else was in an RV, and boy were RVs big!
The beach was practically empty during the day because the highs were in the mid 60s. The sunsets were amazing, and of course the company was wonderful. Latanya wanted to practice some of the sweet skills she learned from her iPhone Photography school (yes that exists) and this was the perfect opportunity. She calls it the ‘golden hour’. That’s the time just after sunset, I think.
During the day we took walks on the beach, picked up sticks, threw sticks, picked up rocks, threw rocks, chased the birds, tried to hug the birds, tried to kiss the birds, ran from the birds, and then put the little one to bed by 8pm. Hey, a lot of our perspective is from the mind of our two year old, can you blame us.
She really enjoyed camping on the beach. She especially enjoyed the s’mores. I don’t think it has really set in that her parents own and run a s’more company. She does help us a lot and pitches in when we clean up. She’s is practically interviewing for a s’more assistant position.
We stayed for three nights and enjoyed each one. We couldn’t wait for the next trip! Hint: it’s another beach spot.
